Box office in the UK & Ireland was up 42% in March 2026 compared to last year, pushing the year-to-date to 8% ahead of 2025.
Total revenue for March 2026 was £72.2m, 42% up on the £50.9m of March 2025. The year-to-date is now at £265m, ahead of £243m at the same stage last year. All figures are provided by Comscore.

Amazon MGM Studios’ Project Hail Mary, distributed by Sony, was the standout title for the month, bringing in £18.4m in the date period of March 6-April 2.
It had the second-highest opening of the year of £4.6m when it launched on March 20, pushing that weekend to 84% up on the equivalent weekend last year. It was a key reason why March 2026 outstripped last year, when the three lead titles were Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy (£7.4m), Disney’s Snow White (£7.3m) and Mickey 17 (£6.7m).
Disney animation Hoppers took second place in March 2026, with £11.9m, having started with £3.3m in early March. UK family adventure The Magic Faraway Tree lands in third spot for Entertainment Film Distributors (EFD), with £5.5m in the date range.
US-originated titles continue to dominate the chart, with seven of the top 10 hailing from the country. There are also three UK titles: The Magic Faraway Tree, pub comedy Mother’s Pride (also EFD), and Studiocanal’s How To Make A Killing – a France-UK-US co-production.
Action sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge is a uncommon Indian film in the top 10, with £3.7m in the date range and currently the second-highest-grossing Indian film of all time in the territory, through Moviegoers Entertainment.
There was an even spread among distributors in March, with two titles each from Disney and EFD; and one from Sony, Universal, Moviegoers, Warner Bros, Paramount and Studiocanal.
Warner Bros’ Wuthering Heights still led the year-to-date chart as of Thursday, April 2, with £25.2m, ahead of Lionsgate’s The Housemaid with £23.5m and Hamnet with £19m. However, Project Hail Mary was up to £22.9m and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to £17.7m by Monday, April 6, with both titles likely to overtake Wuthering Heights within the next week.
Hamnet is the one UK title in the year-to-date top 10. Disney has the most top 10 titles among distributors with three, followed by two for Sony; and one each for Warner Bros, Lionsgate, Universal, EFD and Paramount. Four 2025 releases are still in the 2026 top 10: The Housemaid, Avatar: Fire And Ash, Marty Supreme and Zootropolis 2.

April 2026 has already got off to an excellent start with the best weekend of the year at the UK-Ireland box office from April 3-5. This was propelled by a huge £9.4m start from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and backed up by The Drama opening to £2.1m and forceful holdovers from Project Hail Mary and The Magic Faraway Tree.
Holdovers will continue to dominate screens over the next fortnight, with up-to-date titles to come this month including Universal romantic comedy You, Me And Tuscany from April 10, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy from Warner Bros on April 17, and Universal’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael from April 22.
