After a breakout turn in the Oscar-winning Sinners, Li Jun Li will be turning her battle from vampires to the infected. A recent report has confirmed that she is the latest addition to the quickly-expanding cast of The Last of Us Season 3 at HBO. Her role will be a fairly tragic one, too, as she’s set to play Miriam, the mother of survivors Lev and Yara. Last month, Kyriana Kratter and Michelle Mao were officially cast as the pair, who both have a massive part to play in fleshing out the story and world of The Last of Us: Part II, which the post-apocalyptic drama will continue adapting with its return.
Miriam went unnamed in the original video game, but her impact was certainly felt in how she shaped the siblings’ storyline. She’s a devout and respected member of the Seraphites and a strict mother to her children, raising them in the cult’s beliefs from a teenage age. As they grew up, though, she outright disowned Lev due to their identity as a transgender man and her unwavering faith, driving a wedge between herself and both siblings. Without giving anything away, their relationship helps shape both Lev and Yara’s perception of their own faith and identity, as she becomes yet another antagonist face in the religious community that came to reject them.
