After traveling the cosmos as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s kick-ass Princess Peach, Anya Taylor-Joy is coming back down to earth for her next role. Well, Middle-earth, at least. Yes, the Furiosa and Dune: Part Two star is about to add another, most preciousss major movie franchise to her resumé as she joins the increasingly starry line-up of Andy Serkis’ The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum. “But who will she play? Arwen? Galadriel? Goldberry?” we hear you cry. The answer is in fact none of the above, but rather Seren, an all-new elf character conceived specifically for Serkis’ The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings midquel. Check out the announcement below;
Okay, so who exactly is Seren then? Well, beyond knowing that her name is the Welsh word for ‘star’, Variety has a little more info to share on Taylor-Joy’s Elven addition to The Hunt For Gollum‘s line-up. Per the description of Seren shared by the trade, she’s a Sindarin Elf of the Woodland Realm, described as “a trusted and lethal agent” of King Thranduil, the Elven king played by Lee Pace in The Hobbit movies and set to return in Serkis’ fresh movie. Further details on the character however, with no direct comparison to speak of in J.R.R. Tolkien’s books, are being kept understandably under wraps for now as production continues on Serkis’ fantasy epic, which is set to find Aragorn and Gandalf seeking out — surprise surprise! — Gollum, looking for information on Bilbo Baggins’ ring in the span of time between Bilbo’s birthday party from Fellowship Of The Ring and the burgeoning Fellowship’s arrival at the Mines of Moria.
Joining Taylor-Joy in the cast of The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum are *deep breath* Elijah Wood as Frodo and Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf; the aforementioned Lee Pace as Thranduil; Kate Winslet as Marigol, reportedly Gollum/Sméagol’s Stoor Hobbit grandmother; and Leo Woodall as Dúnedain man Halvard, believed to be one of the Rangers of the North accompanying Aragorn/Strider on his hunt for Andy Serkis’ Gollum. All of which is to say that 17 December, 2027 cannot come soon enough. We wants it preciousss, we needs it preciousssss…
