What are you doing on December 18 this year? If you’re reading this, surely you’re spending the whole day at the cinema doing back-to-back screenings of Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday, which both hit the screen on the same day. (Codename: ‘Dunesday’.) And while we’ve had a few trailers for Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy-closer, things have been lean on the ground on the Avengers front, barring a few small teasers. Until now. We finally have a full Doomsday trailer, absolutely packed full of heroes from across various branches of the MCU Multiverse – and offering our first proper look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Watch it here:

Phew! Much to take in there. First, let’s talk our heroes. It seems Thor is taking a major role as one of the final OG heroes still on the board. And in the shiny New Avengers tower, we see Bucky, Ant-Man and Captain America being greeted by the Fantastic Four, along with the God Of Thunder himself. We see Shuri’s Black Panther coming face-to-face with Namor. We see Gambit battling against… Shang-Chi?! And Loki feeling some major stress as the TVA man holding all the timelines together. Yelena battling… herself – except it’s Mystique in disguise! And in the final moments, a “miracle”, in Thor’s words: Steve Rogers, back and bearded and ready for battle. Or will that be Battleworld?

Exciting as it is to see all the above heroes cross paths (notably, there’s no Spidey or Doctor Strange here), we have the arrival of Doctor Doom – Doomsday’s namesake and major selling point. And we’ve long known, of course, that Doom is being played by none other than Robert Downey Jr. He pops up a few times in the trailer, masked and cloaked, but looking seriously formidable. He even goes toe-to-toe with Thor and leaves Asgard’s finest shaken. Here’s a shiny novel Doom-centric poster, too:

How will all these threads intersect? Will Doctor Doom have any connection to Tony Stark? Will ‘Dunesday’ work as a gigantic blockbuster gambit? (Doomsday actually has Gambit, which helps.) We’ll find out when Avengers: Doomsday hits cinemas on December 18.
