2026 has been a banner year for Jon Bernthal, who has starred in both of the biggest box office hits of the year, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Bernthal plays Menelaus in Christopher Nolan’s breathtaking historical epic, marking the first time that he’s ever worked with the Oscar-winning director — after his powerful performance in the film, it would be surprising if he wasn’t seen in one of his movies in the future. Bernthal also features alongside Tom Holland in the fourth MCU solo Spider-Man movie, teaming up with Peter Parker as Frank Castle to take on The Hulk (played by Mark Ruffalo) and Jean Grey (played by Sadie Sink). Bernthal previously made his MCU debut as The Punisher last year in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, starring Charlie Cox.
Bernthal started the year in 2026 powerful on the diminutive screen, though, with unforgettable appearances in shows like His & Hers (co-starring Tessa Thompson) and The Bear (co-starring Ebon Moss-Bachrach). However, between his roles in the streaming shows and box office blockbusters, Bernthal starred in his first solo MCU Frank Castle-focused project, The Punisher: One Last Kill. The 48-minute Disney Plus Special Presentation dropped on streaming on May 12, and it spent weeks in the #1 spot before finally being dethroned by newer releases. Viewership data for the first half of 2026 has finally come in, and it was revealed that The Punisher: One Last Kill drew 12.2 million total views during the first half of 2026 and 586.2 million minutes watched from all Disney Plus subscribers. This is behind Andor at 918.2 million minutes watched, but ahead of other shows like The Book of Boba Fett and Loki.

Is Jon Bernthal Going To Play the Punisher Again?
While it’s yet to be confirmed if and when Jon Bernthal will show up as Frank Castle again, Marvel certainly has large plans in store for the character, especially after seeing the immensely positive response in recent years. There’s plenty of room for Bernthal’s Punisher to show up, be it in larger team-up projects or in a series of his own, and Bernthal continues to express a desire to tell more of Frank’s story. After watching his chemistry with Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4, it’s difficult to imagine a Spider-Man movie without Frank Castle now.
