Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg will be honoured with the President’s Award at this year’s edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF, July 3-11).
Gyllenhaal will receive her award at the opening ceremony of the festival, ahead of presenting her film The Bride!, which she wrote, directed and produced. Her directing debut was The Lost Daughter, and she also starred in films such as Secretary, Crazy Heart and KVIFF award-winner Sherrybaby.
Actor-filmmaker Eisenberg will also be honoured by the festival. His second film as a director A Real Pain earned an Oscar for its co-star Kieran Culkin, and his other work as an actor includes The Social Network, The Squid And The Whale and Zombieland.
KVIFF’s executive Artistic Director Karel Och said: “Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg are distinguished by a certain ‘trans-Atlantic’ sensitivity. Their work as actors and directors has the ability to connect the New World and Europe while drawing on the most essential elements of both traditions. The humour of New York intellectuals is combined with wisdom, talent, and an original way of seeing the world.”
