Hong Kong-based sales outfit Moebius Entertainment has acquired international sales rights (excluding Taiwan) to Happily Ever After, the second feature from Taiwanese filmmaker Feng-i Fiona Roan.
The film will receive its world premiere in the Special Presentations section of Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The story follows two sisters with vastly different personalities and a stray cat that unexpectedly enters their lives. The cast is led by Heather Chen and Shuhua, the Taiwanese singer from K-pop group i-dle, in her feature debut. Further cast includes Kent Tsai, Yang Kuei-mei and Jack Kao.
The acquisition marks a reunion between Moebius founder and CEO Fred Tsui, director Roan and producer Clifford Miu, following their collaboration on Roan’s acclaimed 2021 debut feature American Girl. Tsui handled worldwide sales on the film, securing its global streaming release with Netflix following its festival run.
American Girl premiered at Tokyo before going on a festival run and won five prizes at the Golden Horse Awards including best recent director.
Moebius Entertainment will begin international sales ahead of premiere, with additional festival and distribution plans to be announced in the coming months.
