Strange Trailer for ‘Death Boom’ Doc Examining the Deathcare Industry

“We can’t just keep putting people into the ground…” ☠️ A macabre topic for a documentary film! Even if it’s taboo to talk about, we really do need to be more open to discussing death & dying. QC Ent. debuted the first official trailer for a doc film called Death Boom, directed by Jessica Chandler, exploring the death industry and many challenges it is facing. The film premieres at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival this month hence the trailer arriving now. The doc follows death care workers preparing for 77 million baby boomer deaths coming up (whoa!), who expose the terrible environmental & mental health impacts of embalming, cremation, and conventional burial. Tribeca adds: “Eighty years ago, the ‘Baby Boom’ led to a massive uptick in births. Now, we’re seeing the inevitable end of that surge as those tens of millions of people pass away. This fascinating doc explores the dilemma now facing the funeral industry and the many inventive solutions being pioneered.” It’s not only about how crazy burial is these days (exorbitant, problematic, narrow, etc) but also about how the “deathcare industry” is making money any way they can for people dying. It’s wild! This doc features Eli Roth in it, who is also a producer. But also so is Leonardo DiCaprio! Because it’s also an environmental doc about being more Earth-conscious (when you die). Too fascinating to not want to watch.

Compelled by the urgency of the subject and the occasional opportunity to document an unfolding crisis on American soil, Death Boom pulls back the curtain on the catastrophic mental and environmental impacts of the contemporary deathcare industry. The film, shown through the lens of the workers at the heart of it as they prepare for the passing of 77 million baby boomers, exposes the toll that embalming, cremation, & conventional burial have on those who’ve passed, their families, and deathcare workers, and the corruption – political, religious, corporate – that stands in opposition to greener methods being nationally legalized and accessible. It ultimately shows what is possible if these green methods are put into wider practice, and works toward normalizing conversations around death and grief. Death Boom is a documentary directed by indie filmmaker Jessica Chandler, directing her first feature film. Produced by Eli Roth, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean McKittrick, Phillip Watson, Jennifer Davisson, Ray Mansfield. This is premiering soon at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival this summer.
