We wish we could freeze this moment, right here, right now, and live in it forever. No no no, we’re not talking about the latest heatwave to hit our shores — though we do wish we could literally freeze this moment (anything for a touch of frosty, honestly.) We are of course talking about news coming from Lionsgate that ahead of the release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping this November, all five previous adaptations of Suzanne Collins’ televised teen deathmatch YA books are heading back to cinemas. And what’s more, they’re coming with a bonus little sneak peek at what awaits in a youthful Haymitch Abernathy’s brutal ‘Quarter Quell’ Games. Check out the announcement below;
There you have it. The Hunger Games on 3 September. Catching Fire on the fourth. Mockingjay Part 1 on the fifth. Mockingjay Part 2 on the sixth. And last but certainly not least, The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes on the seventh. From Jennifer Lawrence’s debut as Katniss Everdeen some fourteen years ago all the way through to Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler’s star turns in Francis Lawrence’s 2023 President Snow origin story, the complete Hunger Games saga to date will not only be televised, but thrown up on gigantic screens everywhere. Well, with a petite caveat, as usual.
Thus far, the Gamesathon is only officially confirmed for North American cinemas, with tickets on sale now stateside through Fathom Entertainment. However, with movie lovers in recent years demonstrating a real appetite for cinema re-releases — for everything from Princess Mononoke to The Lord Of The Rings to Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home — it seems like an inevitability that one of the most successful YA franchises of all time will get its day in the sun (again) in UK cinemas and internationaly, too. And if/when those tickets do go on sale and everyone’s dashing to the digital box office like it’s the Cornucopia itself, all we can say is may the odds be ever in your favour. *Whistles* *Raises three-finger salute*
