The UK’s Matthew Rhys became the first person ever to win two lead acting awards as he claimed lead actor in a comedy series for Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay and lead actor in a confined or anthology series or movie for Netflix’s The Beast In Me.
The stunning outcome means that combined with the Welsh star’s 2018 lead dramatic actor win for The Americans he is the only male actor to win all three lead Emmys awards in his career.
Apple TV’s horror comedy Widow’s Bay was named best comedy series and dominated the Emmys on Monday night (September 14), taking a total of 14 awards from Monday’s Primetime Emmys at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles and the Creative Arts Awards last weekend. Kate O’Flynn and Stephen Root won supporting comedy acting awards.
Jean Smart won her fifth Emmy in the outstanding lead comedy actress prize for Hacks (which she previously won in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025), while HBO Max’s best drama series winner The Pitt earned six awards on Monday headlined by Noah Wyle claiming his second consecutive outstanding lead actor drama series win for the medical show.
Rhea Seehorn won outstanding lead dramatic actress for Apple TV’s Pluribus, while in the supporting dramatic acting races, Allison Janney won dramatic recognition for Netflix’s The Diplomat, and Tom Pelphrey earned the award for HBO Max’s Task.
Sally Field was named best confined or anthology series or movie lead actress for Netflix’s Remarkably Bright Creatures, and DTF St. Louis from HBO Max was named best confined or anthology series.
