In 2020’s Enola Holmes, Millie Bobby Brown’s titular heroine, teen sister of Sherlock (yes, that one), set out to find her missing mother and wound up finding her true calling as a swashbuckling super-sleuth all of her own making. In 2022’s Enola Holmes 2, our intrepid heroine found herself looking for a missing match factory worker and unearthing a far grander conspiracy. Now, in Enola Holmes 3, hailing from Adolescence duo Philip Barantini and Jack Thorne, Enola — on the morn of her Malta wedding to Louis Partridge’s Lord Tewkesbury, no less — faces her biggest case yet: the mystery of the missing Sherlock Holmes. *Gasp* Check out the trailer below;
In the immortal words of Billy Idol, “It’s a nice day for a white wedding.” Or it would be at least, were it not for the fact that this first trailer for Enola Holmes 3 finds MBB’s mystery-solving maverick being both figuratively and literally pulled in all directions. Set to that iconic Idol track, and shot through with the kind of kinetic force we’ve come to expect from Boiling Point and Adolescence filmmaker Barantini, our first proper look at Netflix’s third riff on Nancy Springer’s bestselling books find Sherlock’s kid sister on the proverbial ropes. Facing an identity crisis as she prepares to tie the knot — and potentially give away her name — to Louis Partridge’s Lord Tewkesbury, the prospect of a world and a family life larger than just the two of them, and Himesh Patel’s Dr. John Watson literally running her off the road to reveal that her brother has been kidnapped, our dear, ever-droll Enola has her work cut out for her if she’s going to make it to the church on time.
The short-but-sweet official synopsis for Enola Holmes 3 — which is also set to see the returns of Helena Bonham-Carter’s Eudoria Holmes and Sharon Duncan-Brewster’s Moriarty — reads: “Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide in a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before. As the private detective juggles the new case and the next stages of her relationship with Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), the game is truly afoot.”
Who’s kidnapped Sherlock? Will Enola and Tewkesbury (Ernest Augustus Tewkesbury, in fact) say “I do”? And is Philip Barantini going to find a spot for an audacious oner as Millie Bobby Brown searches Malta for her missing massive bro? We’ll find out the answers to all of those questions — and more — when the game once again is afoot on 1 July on Netflix.
