“How are you opening for Green Day?” “Honestly, I don’t know.” Legion M & Inaugural Ent. have unveiled an official trailer for a rock band road trip movie called Nimrods, made by director Lee Kirk. It premiered last year at TIFF under the original title New Years Rev (teaser here) but has been renamed Nimrods for the final release in theaters this August. Nimrods is a coming-of-age story about three friends who journey to Los Angeles, mistakenly believing that their band is opening for Green Day at a show on New Year’s Eve. Their roadtrip is a rowdy & mischievous jaunt across the country filled with many adventures, based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van. The full cast includes Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, Ryan Foust as the 3 friends, with Ignacio Diaz- Silverio, Keen Ruffalo, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee, and Sean Gunn. This looks like a great time and enjoyable youngsters road trip flick with these teens learning some lessons along the way. Strap in.
Here’s the two official trailers (+ final poster) for Lee Kirk’s movie Nimrods, direct from YouTube:
Intro via TIFF: “Since Green Day burst onto the scene in the 1990s, their sound and success have helped launch a countless number of garage rock bands, each aspiring to channel the group’s energy & attitude. Among the most committed are The Analog Dogs, [a rock band] who want nothing more than to meet Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool. Forcing their way to drop off a demo to their beloved idols in hopes of earning some recognition, they instead get an extremely rare opportunity — to open up for Green Day at their New Year’s concert. Or so they think. Unbeknownst to them, the opener gig is actually a prank played on them by one of their brothers. Nevertheless, naively optimistic, the young trio set off on the road from Kansas to California, with wide-eyed dreams of being on stage alongside their heroes.” 🤘🎸
Nimrods, formerly known as New Years Rev, is both written and directed by the American actor / writer / filmmaker Lee Kirk, director of the films The Giant Mechanical Man and Ordinary World previously, plus a few other compact films. Produced by Tim Perell, Stella Bulochnikov, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, Tre Cool, Anna Keegan, Tim Perell, Robin Rapino. This initially premiered the 2025 Toronto Film Festival last year under the New Years Rev title. Legion M and Inaugural Entertainment will release Lee Kirk’s Nimrods movie in US theaters starting August 14th, 2026 coming up soon. Look any good? Curious to watch this?
